Anxious contestants lined the edge of the drainage ditch in Jack Ewing Park last Thursday as they watched a host of bright yellow ducks floating down the stream at the annual Pratt Community College Beaver Boosters Duck Race fundraiser.
Winners of the April 25 event were: 1st place Brad Luthe-$1,000, 2nd place Brian Arensdorf-$250 and 3rd place Amanda Cordes-$100. Duck Relevant (last place) went to PCC soccer coach Kevin Kewley.
Contestants purchased 561 ducks and the event showed a $2,098 profit. Many contestants and a host of PCC athletes, who were not eligible to compete, were on hand to watch the event. Students passed the time before the race playing catch, kicking around a soccer ball and throwing a football. The Beaver food cart was on hand to satisfy hungry appetites.
The City of Pratt furnished the water supply as the ducks made their way down the trench to the finish line. Children enjoyed an exhibition race with each child receiving coupons for ice cream at Casey’s General Store, said Scott Goodheart, PCC assistant athletic director.
