Officers said 26-year-old Matthew Stansbury, of Sylvia, was the person who died in Monday’s single-vehicle rollover where all four occupants were ejected outside of Arlington.
“The accident is still under investigation; however, it is believed speed may have been a factor,” the Reno County Sheriff’s Office stated, adding none of the occupants wore a seatbelt.
Deputies responded to the crash at 2:05 p.m. near the corner of Arlington and Hodge roads and found Stansbury trapped underneath the inverted vehicle. Stansbury was pronounced dead at the scene.
Driver Annabelle Gaston, 16, of Plevna, and passengers 21-year-old Katherine Blake and 18-year-old Lakrista Ligget were all taken to the Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. Blake and Ligget are both from Sylvia.
Their condition was not immediately available.
The preliminary investigation indicated the vehicle was eastbound on Arlington Road when it approached the S-curves leading into Arlington. The vehicle continued off the roadway into the north ditch and rolled into the field.
