Skyline football team defeated Kiowa County 24-8 on Friday.

The Skyline High School football team made the short trip to Kiowa County High School in Greensburg on Friday, September 13. The T-Birds were looking to build off their 72-12 victory in week one vs. Burrton. Friday’s game was much closer against the Mavericks of KCHS.
The first quarter was a defensive battle, with both the T-Birds and Mavericks failing to make it into the endzone.
In the second quarter, the Mavs took the lead with a four-yard touchdown pass, followed by a two-point conversion. This would be the only score of the first half as the T-Birds were shut out.
After the break, the Thunderbirds started putting points on the board while also keeping the defensive pressure on the Mavs. Jesus Casas scored the first touchdown for the T-Birds on a 32-yard pass from Braden Tyler, the two-point conversion would tie the game at eight.
Entering the fourth quart, the game was still gridlocked at one score each. The Temanson brothers did their part to change that. Eli Temanson ran for 149-yards including a 6-yard touch down run in the fourth quarter.
Eli’s brother Aden scored his first touchdown of the season on a 10-yard touchdown run. The two-point conversion attempts for both touchdowns were successful, putting the T-Birds up 24-8 in the final quarter.
“So proud of our guys. They battled their tails off and represented our weight room so well in a tough physical game. Our defense showing they can shut an offense down gives us a big boost moving forward,” said Coach Nation.
The T-Birds stifling defense was led by Braden Tyler with eight tackles and two forced fumbles. Brock Montgomery was the second leading tackler with six tackles and one forced fumble.
SHS held the Mavs to 120 yards for the entire game.
On the offensive side, Eli Temanson led Skyline with 149 rushing yards, followed by Braden Tyler with 95. Tyler also connected on three passes, the longest being to Jesus Casas for a 30 yard gain.
The Thunderbirds are back in action at home on Friday against the Attica and Argonia (A&A) Titans at home.
