Running for records didn't quite materialize but Skyline athletes put together top team scores Tuesday.
The Skyline High School Cross Country team made the trip to Lyons for a cross country meet on Tuesday, October 1. Heidi Roberts was the top finisher for the girl's team, coming in as the 6th runner. Immediately after was Hayley Roberts, finishing in 7th place. Freshman Kyanna Davidson was the next runner to finish for the Lady T-Birds, coming in at 19th. Brianna Spease placed 24th, and Riley Washington and Keyra Washington finished out the race in 27th and 28th place, respectively. The efforts of these six young athletes was enough to give the Lady T-Birds a second-place finish as a team.
The boy's team had a good showing as well. Jackson Wallace finished first beating out his teammate Jacob Swisher, who finished second. Nathan Adams came in as the 12th runner. Juniors Kyle Hampton (19th place) and Keagan Davidson (20th) were just 20 seconds apart crossing the finish line. Sophomore Brock McKennon finished 33rd for the TBirds. Freshman Kaidyn Ackerman finished 40th, just missing 39th place by one second. The Thunderbirds finished second, only to Ellsworth.
"I'm really pleased with the efforts put forth today. We had a couple of kids running for school records. While they didn't quite meet their goal, they gave everything they had. That's all a coach can ask for from his runners," said Skyline Cross County coach Mike Neifert.
