Fire restarts in CRP field near Preston.

A stack of hay bales in northeast Pratt County were left to burn after a fire Oct. 15 set the bales ablaze.  The fire was a flareup of a previous fire on Oct. 14 at the same location one mile north of Preston and a mile and a half east on NE 90th Street.
Wind on Tuesday helped reignite the fire that got into bales, burned CRP grass and for a time, threatened a home in the area. Firefighters got the fire stopped but dozens of bales were left to burn themselves out. A Preston fire unit was left on stand by in case the fire started up again.
"The Preston fire department responded fast and saved the house. They did a really good job," said Pratt County Sheriff Jimmy White.
The original fire on Oct. 14 was a smaller fire and involved a Bobcat skid loader that was moving hay bales. Hay accumulated on the Bobcat skid loader muffler and caught fire. The fire burned a small area of CRP grass but the Bobcat skid loader was a total loss.
