Obituary: John Henderson

Wichita, KS - John  W. Henderson, 85, passed away February 27, 2021 at his home in Wichita. He was born February 22, 1936 in Pratt at the Ninnascah Hospital  to Milton and Mary Patricia (Sloan) Henderson. John  married Carol (Menges) Henderson on June 6, 1959 in Wichita, Ks. They were married for 61 years. 

John attended  Byers High School graduating in 1954, he earned a Bachelor's Degree from Fort Hays State University and a Master's Degree from Wichita State University in Education. He taught for 25 years in Preston and Pratt. He also worked for the Pratt Walmart as a cashier for 27 years. He was a farmer in the Byers Community for 45 years.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pratt and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus serving as Grand Knight and a lifetime member of the 4th Degree Columbus Council of Wichita. John and Carol moved to Wichita in 2012 and became Members of  St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wichita.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Henderson; sons, Timothy (Ann) H. Henderson and Dean (Heather) F. Henderson; sister, Alice Overocker; and grandchildren; John Roman Henderson, Abby (Mateo) Ellis, Sarah Henderson, Rachel Henderson and Ethan Henderson.

John  is preceded in death by his Father, Milton Henderson; Mother, Mary Patricia Henderson, stepmother Lorena Henderson; Son, Jay Lee Henderson; Two Brothers, Chuck Henderson and Fil Henderson.

Visitation was Wednesday, March 3, 2021 from 9:00 am-6:00 pm and Vigil Service took place, 6:30 pm at 300 Country Club Road, Pratt. Mass of Christian burial service was held at 10:00 am, Thursday, March 4, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Pratt with Father Michael Klag presiding. Burial will follow at Iuka Cemetery, Iuka. Family requested that those attending Vigil and Mass to wear a mask.
