Pratt High School boys tennis took 5th at the Central Kansas League meet in Hillsboro in Monday. Following a couple of meets in which the Greenbacks line-up was in flux, the players found themselves back in their familiar positions for league.
Smoky Valley and Hesston tied for the CKL title with 55 points. PHS got 22 to finish 5th.
Returning to singles, Caden Donnenwerth took 4th at the #1 position. He defeated Klug of Hoisington 6-0, 6-0 in round one. He then lost to Brombaugh, Smoky Valley, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 before falling to Wells of Haven 6-3, 6-0 in the third place match.
In #2 singles, Jacob Brucks took 5th by losing to Colson of Larned 6-2, 6-2; advancing with a BYE; and defeating Hoisington's Mooney 9-2.
Chase Folkers and Kale Wilson teamed up again for PHS in #1 doubles, taking 6th. They lost to Reisner/Curtis Hoisington 6-0, 6-3; defeated Weins/ Klein of Hillsboro 9-3; and fell to Rohling/ Rohling of Haven 9-0 in the consolation final.
Pratt's #2 doubles team Luis Garcia-Jimenez and Hogan Thompson won 4th place. They defeated Herrman/ Theis of Larned 5-7, 6-1, 10-6 in round one. They were beaten 6-1, 6-1 in the semifinals by Casimir/ Decker of Hesston. They also lost in a close 3rd place match to Caffrey/ Yoder of Haven 7-6 (1), 7-5.
"Thompson/Garcia had their best day yet and were very close to finishing in 3rd”, PHS head coach Tate Thompson said of his young duo. "Court experience continues to be their biggest need."
The PHS netters will move into regional play Thursday and Friday at Wichita Collegiate with trips to State on the line.
