STERLING—The Bethany baseball squad rebounded for a doubleheader sweep of the Sterling College Warriors. The Swedes won game one 6-1 before taking game two 9-6.

BTHY – 6, STER – 1

The Warriors scored their only run in the bottom of the second inning. The Swedes evened things up in the top of the fourth. Braden Scrivner, junior catcher, was hit by a pitch, before Zac Myrick, senior courtesy runner, then came in on the bases. He moved to second on a Warrior error before Joseph Kelleher, junior outfielder, put down a sacrifice bunt to moved Myrick to third. Finally, Myrick scored on a Mike Lowery, senior infielder, sacrifice fly ball to center.

In the top of the fifth, the Swedes took the lead when Tyler Horchem, senior infielder, hit a homerun to left field.

Bethany added another run in the top of the sixth inning when Kelleher hit a home run of his own.

The Swedes plated their final three runs of the game in the top of the seventh. Horchem walked his way on base before moving to second on a James Duvall, senior outfielder, single to left. Scrivner then doubled to deep left center to score Horchem and Duvall. Scrivner then moved to third on a Warrior error on the play. Myrick then came in to run for Scrivner, scoring on an Evan Schwab, junior designated hitter, sacrifice fly ball to right field.

Duvall led the team with three hits while Luis Duran, senior infielder, had two. Four other Swedes recorded hits in the contest.

Gus Lopez, senior pitcher, started on the mound allowing one earned run on one hit in four complete innings. Jason Nowlin, freshman pitcher, came in to close things out earning the win. Nowlin allowed zero runs on three hits in five complete innings.

BTHY – 9, STER – 6

Bethany kicked this one off in a big way, scoring five runs in the top of the first inning. Horchem reached second base on a Sterling error. He moved to third on a Duvall single to the pitcher's mound. Duran then singled to left-center to score Horchem and move Duvall to second. Scrivner then singled to center, Duvall scored on the play. Lowery then hit a three-run home run. Sterling answered with a single run in the bottom half of the inning.

In the top of the second, the Swedes plated another run. Horchem doubled to right before moving to third on a Duvall single to left. Horchem then scored on a Duran sacrifice fly to right. The Warriors plated a single run in the bottom of the second.

However, the Swedes once again answered with a single run in the third. Kelleher doubled to left center before scoring on a Branden Gonzalez, senior infielder, single to left. The Warriors then scored a run in the bottom half of the inning.

Bethany added another run in the top of the fourth. Duran singled to third before moving to second when Scrivner was hit by a pitch. Schwab was then hit by a pitch as well to load up the bases. Kelleher then singled to right to score Duran.

In the top of the fifth, the Swedes plated another run. Gonzalez reached base on a walk before moving to second a Horchem single to left. Durvall then singled to right to score Gonzalez.

Finally, the Warriors plated their final three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Duvall, Duran and Kelleher all had three hits in the contest, while Horchem recorded two hits in the contest. Three other Swedes recorded hits in the game.

Edwar Melendez, senior pitcher, threw the complete game for the Swedes, earning the win. In seven complete innings, Melendez allowed six earned runs on six hits.
