Lord, make me like You!
January 19, 2020: SOAP #3699: Genesis 47-48; Psalm 10; Luke 19
Scripture: Psalm (NIV) 10:1 Why, O LORD, do you stand faroff? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?…
3 He boasts of the cravings of his heart; he blesses the greedy and reviles theLORD.
4 In his pride the wicked does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is noroom for God.
6 He says to himself, “Nothing willshake me; I'll always be happy and never have trouble.”
11 He says to himself, “God hasforgotten; he covers his face and never sees.”
Observation: Thefirst verse questions, 'Where are you, God? Why are you not helping us? Don'tyou care that we are hurting?' Then thenext 10 verses give the answer. Here iswhy God seems so far off. It is becauseof the wickedness of the people. Man isso busy in his own greed that 'in all his thoughts he has no room for God!' Man thinks that he does not need God. Some men even think that God has forgottenabout this planet and pays us no attention to us.
Application: Godseems so far away because we have pushed him out of the picture! We have ignored His laws and destroyed theinnocent who are created in His image. Howwould we react if we were treated that way?
But Psalm 10 continues '12 Arise, LORD! Lift up your hand, O God. Do notforget the helpless. 13 Why does the wicked man revile God? Why does he say tohimself, “He won't call me to account”? 14 But you, O God, do seetrouble and grief; you consider it to take it in hand. The victim commitshimself to you; you are the helper of the fatherless.'
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I worship you because you arenot like me. Make me like you. You endured the greatest disrespect from yourcreation, yet you remain merciful and offer forgiveness. Your grace is amazing! Amen
