Through Me; In Me

June 26, 2020: SOAP #3858:   Jonah 1-4; 2Timothy 2

Scripture:  Jonah (NIV) 4:9 But God said to Jonah, “Do you have a right to be angry about the vine?” “I do,” he said. “I am angry enough to die.” 10 But the LORD said, “You have been concerned about this vine, though you did not tend it or make it grow. It sprang up overnight and died overnight. 11 But Nineveh has more than a hundred and twenty thousand people who cannot tell their right hand from their left, and many cattle as well. Should I not be concerned about that great city?”

Observation:  The book of Jonah could have easily been finished at the end of chapter three, but God was not through working.  God had provided His word to Johan (1:1), sent a great wind (1:4), sent a great fish (1:17), gave the fish a stomach ache (2:10), a second word for the prophet (3:1), and sent a revival to Nineveh (3:10).

God was not only interested in the city; He was also interested in the prophet! So, to end the list of things God provided in the book of Jonah, God provides a gourd, a worm, and a wind (4:6,7,8).  And God the prophet with a new perspective.  God gives Jonah His perspective.  God lets Jonah see Nineveh from God's viewpoint (4:11).

Application:  God wants to accomplish His work THROUGH me.  He also wants to accomplish His work IN me.  He wants me to see things as He sees them.  God wants me to love the world the way He loves the world.   He wants me to participate with Him in His great plan of gathering a group of people from the earth to rule and reign with Him for all eternity!

Prayer:  Heavenly Father, you are always working to enlarge my vision.  Holy Spirit, help me focus my eyes on what you see.  Re-focus my priorities on what is important to you.  In Jesus Name I pray, Amen
