Standing on the promises
March 22, 2020: SOAP #3762: Joshua 12-14; 1Corinthians 7
Scripture: Joshua (NIV) 13:33 But to the tribe of Levi,Moses had given no inheritance; the LORD, the God of Israel, is theirinheritance, as he promised them.
Observation: Noinheritance: to some, this may appear to be a great loss. But the promise that follows cannot be measuredin earthly terms. God's promises aremore valuable than anything we can receive of this world. And this promise, in my estimation, exceedsall other promises. God, Himself, haspromised to be their inheritance!!! I amsinging, 'He's all I need; He's all I need, Jesus is all I need!'
As I was reading this portion of scripture, I was reminded of another promiseGod made: 'Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food inmy house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if Iwill not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing thatyou will not have room enough for it.' (Malachi 3:10)
In Philippians, after thanking the church for sending money to support hisministry, Paul gives this promise from the Lord: 'But my God shall supply all your needaccording to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.' (4:19)
Application: When people ask me about my retirement plan,my answer is 'Tithing' and giving. What has been placed in a retirement fund maygo up and down, but my God will supply my needs, not according to the stockmarket, nor the local economy, but 'according to His riches in glory!'
Prayer: Heavenly Father, You are the faithful God whowatches over Sharon and me. You are theLord of our home. We trust you to guideus through the challenges of our retirement years. We stand on your promises. Our desire is to bring joy to your heart. Amen
