Lady T-birds keep it close

Skyline girls scramble for the rebound after a Thunderbird free-throw during their game against South Barber last week. Skyline lost the hard-fought contest 30-40.

The Lady T-birds of Skyline faced off against the Lady Chieftains of South Barber on January 21. It was a close game throughout all four quarters but at the end, Skyline was on the losing end.

After the first eight minutes of play, SHS was down 7-11. At the half, the Lady Chieftains’ lead had grown to 14-21.

After the break, the Lady T-birds kept themselves in the game and cut the lead down to 6.

When the final buzzer rang, the Lady Chieftains outscored the Lady Thunderbirds 40-30.

“This was a tough loss; we were coming off an Attica game where we were scoring the ball and had very few defensive assignment errors,’ said Coach Morgan Ballard. “Tonight the ball wouldn't go in for us, especially early, and we allowed that to transition to the defensive end where we had some missed assignments that allowed for some easy buckets for South Barber in the first half. The nice thing about basketball is you don't have much time to celebrate a win or worry about a loss, the next game becomes important pretty quickly after the buzzer sounds. We have three opportunities this week to put things together again and compete with whoever we match up with,”

The Lady T-birds have a jam-packed week of basketball during the 54 Classic, with games Monday, January 27, Thursday, January 30, and Saturday, February 1, all  at the Skyline gymnasium.
