In their final competition before the league tournament, Pratt High School wrestlers took 3rd at Andover on Saturday, Feb. 1.

Those who placed from Pratt were: Devon Weber 1st, Koda Dipman 2nd, Bryce Winsor 2nd, Dylan Cox 3rd, Hogan Thompson 3rd, Iziah Cook 3rd, Jesus Ornelas 3rd, Hunter Huber 5th, Dalton Weber 6th, Mason Melcher 6th, Lucas Baker 7th, and Luis Garcia Jimenez 7th.

The team faced an added challenge on Saturday.

“We had two sick wrestlers, so we weren't quite full strength, but the team pulled together to get the best team finish we could get in spite of adversity,” said head coach Tate Thompson.

Thompson said he thought the boys made big strides.

“Some of them got their records closer to seedable, some of them showed confidence in positions that they have been struggling to pull the trigger in, and all of them improved in some way,” Thompson said.

Thompson said the team has a few adjustments to make before league on Thursday, Feb. 13 at Nickerson.

“We still have adjustments to make, but the adjustments are as simple as changing levels, getting our hips out, getting hand control, or just being confident with what they are good at and avoid making excuses when things go wrong, just adjust and fix the problem,” Thompson said. “We are almost there and league will give us one more chance to fine tune things before postseason competition.”

Coach Thompson said he was excited to take the boys into the postseason.

“I am confident that we will surprise some people as we get to the postseason competition, but we have to do the work and make the adjustments, or that is all just talk of potential,” Thompson said. “You have to identify the weaknesses, work on them, make the changes and outwork your opponents with confidence.”
