Outdoors letter: Reader questions about LiveScope sonar, sunken car at Lake Shawnee

Topeka Capital-Journal
A screen grab from Joe Bragg's Garmin Panoptix LiveScope shows a sunken vehicle in 22 feet of water at Perry Reservoir on Feb. 3.

A couple of things about your sonar article. First, with current fishing sonar equipment becoming so technologically advanced what will prevent crappie, bass and other preferred fish species from being "overfished?"

Secondly, I'm a bit surprised about leaving that "detected" vehicle in Lake Shawnee and would think the EPA would also be concerned. At some point, after the metal rusts through and the plastic/rubber parts break down — engine oil, transmission fluid, differential gear oil, battery acid, antifreeze, power steering fluid, brake fluid and windshield washer fluid will pollute that specific location in Lake Shawnee and possibly cause a "fishkill" event.
