Gordon R. Milam, 73, Rapid City, S.D., died Friday, Oct. 15, 2010, at the Golden Living Center-Prairie Hills, Rapid City.


Gordon R. Milam, 73, Rapid City, S.D., died Friday, Oct. 15, 2010, at the Golden Living Center-Prairie Hills, Rapid City.

Gordon Ray Milam was born April 5, 1937, at Hays, to Earl and Marjie Bailey Milam. He attended school and graduated from Plainville High School in 1955. He entered the United States Air Force in September of 1956 and was honorably discharged in September of 1962. He married Annie Jarzombek on May 28, 1960, at San Antonio, Texas.

After his military discharge Gordon began his career in the oilfield supply business as a salesman in Kansas. He retired in 2002. In 2008 Gordon and Annie moved to the Black Hills of South Dakota and resided in Rapid City, where they have lived since.

Gordon was a member of St. Therese Church and the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife, Annie Milam of Rapid City; one son, Gordie and wife Natalie Milam of League City, Texas; two daughters, Cheryl and husband Clyde Lang, Ellis, and Natalie and husband Rob Hrabe, Rapid City; one brother, Jerry and wife Mary, Goddard; and two grandchildren, Mackenzie and husband Patrick Millar and Ashley Hrabe.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Lorene Nahon.

Mass of Christian Burial was Tuesday at St. Therese Church, with the Rev. William Zandri officiating. Burial was in the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. Military honors were provided by Rushmore VFW Post No. 1273 and the South Dakota National Guard. Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, Rapid City, was in charge of arrangements.
