The Skyline girl’s basketball team managed to get two players recognized by the Heart of the Plains League coaches.

Senior point guard Leah McPherson was a unanimous pick to the all-league team, while junior guard Anna Petrowsky was named an honorable mention.

McPherson had a solid senior year that saw her finish as the team’s leading scorer as well as the most confident ball handler. She could knock down perimeter shots but also had the ball control to get into the lane and drive past defenders. One of two returning players from last year’s senior-laden team, McPherson was key to the Lady T-Birds’ success this season.

“Leah was a great leader for us this season,” said head coach Jimmy Lee. “Just like that game against South Barber – when she’s not out there, we struggled. She was also one of our more consistent scorers. She can shoot it well and was confident with the ball.”

While McPherson was known for her ability to lead the team on offense, Petrowsky was primarily a defensive asset. Down the stretch, she teamed with Morgan Flowers to take away the other team’s best player. On a team that hung their hat on their stout defense, Petrowsky was effective all season.

“Anna was really a great defender for us this season,” Lee said. “Her and Morgan kept us in games when we needed to shut down the other team’s best player.”

Petrowsky’s leadership will be pivotal to the success of next year’s team, as the Lady T-Birds lose four seniors, including McPherson, Ashley Timm, Whitney Renner and Becca Swisher.
