The Pratt Greenback boy’s basketball team ran their record to 3-0 with a 46-34 win over Central Kansas League opponent Smoky Valley Vikings.

The Greenbacks opened the game, like the previous two, with great intensity and hard-nosed defense.

“Our kids did an excellent job of not giving Quinn Dippel and Nick Deterding good looks at the basket tonight,” Coach David Swank said. “Holding Dippel to just four points was a huge factor in the game.”

Pratt took a 7-point lead after the first quarter, led by Micah Swank’s 10. The game was played at a slow pace and Pratt had to adjust to all the different zone looks that Smoky Valley gave the Greenbacks.  Pratt took a 24-20 lead into halftime.

The Greenbacks turned up the defensive pressure in the second half and only allowed five points in the third quarter as they built a double digit advantage.  The Greenbacks out scored the Vikings by two points in the fourth quarter to give them a 12-point victory.

Swank finished the game with 23 points, eight rebounds, and four assists.

BJ Dean got nine rebounds and scored six points. Dylan Besser, according to Coach Swank, “gave us great minutes tonight and is starting to really attack and move to the rim when the opportunity presents itself.     Also Skylar Dean and Thomas Mayberry contributed with their defense and passing. They both had three assists apiece and might have had several more if we would finish better inside. All in all we passed our first test of the season.”

Tonight the Greenbacks go to Nickerson in a CKL game.  The Panthers are 3-3 on the season and beat Kingman 55-44 last Friday.
