The Pratt High School wrestling team competed in the very tough Bishop Carroll tournament last Saturday and senior Kasey Crump and junior Austin Gates were able to pick up a third place medal.

“Overall, we had a solid day,” Coach Tate Thompson said. “Our wrestlers competed well and we grew as a team. We are definitely headed in the right direction and we have a lot of positives to build upon as we return after the break. Our competition won’t get any easier along the way, but our kids are ready to take on anyone.”

106: Trae Foreman, so., went 1-1 on the day, getting us a valuable pin in his first round match.

113: Cesar Regalado, so., went 1-2 on the day as the byes in his bracket fell on his side. Cesar received a bye first round only to meet up with Lindlar of Wichita Northwest again, ranked third in 6A, losing a close 8-13 battle, going for the win all the way to the end. Cesar followed that up with a 10-0 decision over Tommy Miller of Campus before meeting Alex Garcia of Dodge City, #2 in 6A, in another repeat matchup from earlier in the season in the consolation semifinals.  Cesar lost that matchup 3-7 to end his day.

120: Hudson Swift, fr., went 0-2 on the day. It is difficult as a freshman when you get thrown into tough seeds and Hudson has dealt with this well and is getting better every week.

126: Josh Ash, fr., went 0-2 on the day, losing his first round match to Brandon Jost of Salina South before losing a heartbreaker, 7-8 to Clay Kear of Andale. His mind has always been in the right state and he is just a couple of strategic adjustments away from seeing those close matches go his way.

132: Brendan Pribil, so., lost to the #2 seed from Andale, Aaron Engles in his first round matchup by fall. Brendan then won a close match, 2-1 over Blaise Albers of Salina South before losing to Cody Prince of Mulvane 0-5 to end his day.

138: Dustin Franklin, fr., went 1-2 on the day losing to the #2 seed, Seth Gunter of Mulvane in the first round by a fall.  Dustin won his next matchup over Zach Cook of Dodge City 9-2 before losing a very close matchup 2-4 to John Sponsel of Bishop Carroll.

145: Mitchell Baird, jr., was unable to compete.

152: Taylor White, so., filled in for Andrew Bartel, sr., going 0-2 on the day.  Taylor has solid technique and is doing a solid job for us.

170: Adam Swinford, sr., went 2-2 on the day losing his consolation semifinal match in the last seconds.

182: Kasey Crump, sr., went 4-1 on the day, placing tird. Kasey defeated the #4 in 5A, a returning state placer from Salina South, Brady Munsch, to end a very successful day.

220: Austin Gates, jr., went 3-1 on the day placing third. Austin wrestled very well and is looking like he will be in contention every week.
