The Pratt boys moved to 4-0 on the season as the 7th ranked Greenbacks beat the Nickerson Panthers 53-26 behind double digit scoring of seniors Micah Swank and BJ Dean.

The Panthers were able to slow down the Greenbacks in the first quarter and they were also able to handle Pratt’s pressure defense as Pratt was only leading 10-7 after the first quarter.

The second quarter the Pratt defense would turn the tide of the game.

“Austin McClain gave us a great spark with his pressure on the ball and anticipation away from the ball. Payson Maydew really played great help-side defense and picked up two charges,” said Coach David Swank.

The defense was not the only story of the second quarter as Pratt would score 18 points compared to Nickerson’s three and would take a commanding 28-10 into the locker room.

Micah Swank would score eight points in the second quarter and BJ Dean would get seven.

The third quarter was much the same as the Panthers had a hard time with the pressure defense that the Greenbacks were applying and Pratt would stretch the lead to 45-20 after three quarters.

Garrett Smith, filling in for Thomas Mayberry who was sick, was able to “step up and contribute tonight which was good to see,” Coach Swank said. “Our top group plays with such great effort and intensity on defense.  I was proud of all of them.”

The Greenbacks were able to out score Nickerson in the fourth quarter by two for the final margin.

“All in all it was a good road victory,” Swank said.    “Now our kids get a well deserved five days off before we start preparing for Hays. Our focus over the break will be to improve our offensive execution and to continue to develop depth on both ends of the floor.”

The Greenbacks will host Hays  Jan. 3rd.

After four games the Greenbacks are outscoring their opponents by over 29 points a game with Swank the leading scorer averaging 19.8 points a game.  He is also shooting around 50 percent from the field and has 17 assists. Dean is scoring 12.5 points a game and is tied with Maydew with 20 rebounds.
