Sacred Heart/Holy Child Preschool will host an annual dinner and auction on Feb. 11 to raise funds for general operating expenses. Merchandise, gift baskets and discount certificates are being collected now until Jan. 31.
The cost of the dinner is $20 per person or $35 for a couple. Doors open at 6 p.m. on Feb. 11, the Saturday before Valentine’s Day, dinner is served at 7 and the live auction follows at 8.
The parochial school has 74 students enrolled in preschool through fifth grade. They are accredited by the State of Kansas and students must take the same assessment tests as public schools, lead teacher Linda Conkle said.
On the 2011 tests, the school achieved building-wide Standard of Excellence in reading and science and fifth graders earned Standard of Excellence for reading and math.
In all, 10 students scored exemplary in reading and six in math.
The students do well when they go on to public school, Conkle said, with a large percentage of them achieving honor roll status in middle and high school and several have been named as salutatorians or valedictorians of their graduating classes.
The school provides a high teacher to student ratio and Christian-based education.
