  • Respect is a pretty powerful word.  Especially when it comes to the game of volleyball.  The Kingman triangular was a good lesson in respect.
The 2rd-ranked Hillsboro Trojans always command respect.  In the 18-25, 24-26, loss to the Trojans, Coach Rausch found a new level of respect for his team.
“They didn’t quit; they fought until the very end,” Rausch commented. “I saw vast improvement over the last time we played them.  Still, we have to figure out how to overcome some pretty obvious weaknesses.  Stonie Flemming helped us take a step in that direction tonight.  She has started coming around, she’s hitting the ball well.”
After such a hard fought game there is almost always a letdown.  Again, you have to respect your opponent-especially if it’s your neighbor down the road, Kingman.
The Greenbacks struggled with passing, communication, and continuity, rallying late but losing the first set to the Eagles, 24-26.
With their backs against the wall, Pratt turned it around in the second set, winning 25-9.  The third match was a game of runs, with nothing coming easy for either team.  Pratt dug in and kept plugging away, winning the third set and match, 25-18.
The JV Greenback volleyball team traveled to Kingman Tuesday night.
The first match the Greenbacks played Hillsboro.  The Greenbacks had poor communication and lack of determination losing 25-27, 11-25.
Next the Greenbacks took on the Kingman Eagles.  They took charge early and out served Kingman winning both25-5, 25-10.
The freshmen/sophomore volleyball team has definitely had an exciting week. They had a quad last Thursday evening winning all three.
    They beat Great Bend in three (19-25, 25-21, 15-10), Hoisington, 25-22, 25-12 and Larned 25-12, 25-10.
Tuesday evening the 18th, the girls traveled to Kingman beating the host school 25-17 25-12.  Against Hillsboro was a more exciting match beating them 27-25 and 25-23.
The Greenback varsity spikers have a tournament Saturday at Lyons beginning at 9 a.m.
