Two drivers escaped injury following a two-vehicle accident on North U.S. 281 south of Kincheloe's Inc. Monday evening at 5:44 p.m. The accident was about three quarters of a mile north of Pratt.
Shane Slief, 21 of Haviland, was southbound in a 2001 Dodge 4x4 and was stopped waiting for oncoming traffic to clear before making a left turn off the highway onto a driveway to a residence.
Curtis Adelhardt, 50 of Pratt, was also southbound in a 2002 Ford F 150 when he realized the Dodge was going to turn, said Pratt County Sheriff Sgt. Adam Piland.
Slief saw the Ford coming and attempted to get his vehicle in first gear but missed and hit third causing the vehicle to die. He got the vehicle into neutral just before the Ford hit the rear end of the Dodge. The airbags in the Ford deployed.
The Ford came to a stop headed south in the southbound lane while the Dodge came to a stop headed south on the shoulder.
Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident and both drivers refused transport to Pratt Regional Medical Center.
