Morgan Schmidt qualified for the state golf tournament, shooting a 107 to take 15th place at the Larned regional on Monday.
That was Schmidt’s best score of the season, and a 13 stroke improvement over the same course early in the season.
The balance of the Greenback Lady Linksters seasons came to an end, however, as the team placed 8th with 490 points.
Only the top 3 teams qualify for state. It was a hotly contested regional as the top three teams, Goodland, Colby and Ulysses, all posted 414 team scores. Goodland was awarded the regional championship on the strength of the “5th player” tiebreaker.
For the Greenbacks, Taylar Fuhr shot 115 (28th) and Kayla Baer shot 124 (32nd). Both golfers ended their season well, shooting season- best or tying -for- season-best scores.
Lauren Beardsley (144 41st) and Shelby Richard (146 43rd) struggled a little bit on the day, both posting higher scores than they shot either last week or earlier in the season at Larned.
Morgan Schmidt will compete in the state 4A meet, to be hosted by Buhler but held at Hesston Golf Park on October 15, with tee times beginning at 9 a.m.
