With a pair of regular season wins at Macksville Tuesday night, the Skyline Thunderbirds volleyball team improved to 25-10 on the year, good enough to solidify the #1 seed at the upcoming Sterling 2A substate.
Ellinwood (25-11) and Moundridge (25-12) are other teams that will be highly seeded.
At Macksville, the Lady T-Birds took 3 sets to get past the host Mustangs: 25-10; 22-25; 25-19. Skyline disposed of Word of Life a little bit easier: 25-20; 25-6.
Skyline head coach Summer Younie felt that her girls were a bit lethargic following their big weekend of winning the HOPL tournament.
“It’s not that we played bad,” she said. “We just played a little sluggish. It seems that after we play really well one day, we play a little flat the next.”
“We struggled a bit on serving and serve receive-2 things we dominated on over the weekend,” Younie continued. “We just didn’t seem too excited about playing last night.”
To Macksville’s credit, they gave the T-Birds a battle. In the second set, their short sets to the outside were causing Skyline trouble. But the Lady T-Birds didn’t crumble, they battled through and eventually got the win.
