The Pratt Greenback volleyball team traveled to Ulysses on Saturday to compete in the 4A Substate.
For the fourth consecutive season, the Lady Frogs came home with a second place trophy, and no trip to state.
The 26-10 Greenbacks were the second-seeded team behind the hometown Ulysses Tigers. Pratt's first opponent was the Larned Indians-the seventh seed. The girl's wasted no time in getting to the semi-finals, defeating Larned in two sets, 25-9, 25-11.
The second round would pit the Greenbacks against the Colby Eagles. The Eagles sported a very tall and athletic group of upper-classmen.
The experience the Pratt team gathered by playing an aggressive schedule paid off.
Once again, the Pratt team took down their opponents in straight sets, 25-16, 25-19 to make it to the finals for the fourth consecutive year.
They would meet Buhler, who also plays in a tough league. The Crusaders had just beaten the top-seeded Tigers in straight sets.
The finals would be a classic battle. After the Greenbacks shook off some early match adrenaline, they settled in to play as they had most of the day-consistent and with a great amount of heart.
Buhler took the first set 25-23 in a hard-fought battle and had the Pratt girls down big in the second set.
With a show of courage and heart, the Green and Gold fought back, winning the second set 25-23, setting up a third and deciding set.
The Crusaders sprinted to an 8-4 lead and looked like they had the momentum to go all the way, but once again,
Pratt fought back. In a back and forth battle that could've gone either way, Buhler's senior experience provided the last push they would need winning the last set 26-24 and ending the Greenbacks dream of making it to state for the first time in twenty years.
The Lady Greenbacks ended an outstanding season with a 28-11 record. The girls want to thank all those who came out and supported them this season.
