  • Sitting at 10-2, #2 ranked in the conference, the Seward County Lady Saints had to be thinking they were heavily favored in their match-up Tuesday night with the Pratt Community College Lady Beavers.
But apparently, no one told the Beavers they were expected to lose.
On sophomore night at Dennis Lesh Sports Arena, the Lady Beaver spikers sent the Saints back to Liberal nursing the wounds from a 3 set sweep.
PCC won the opening set 25-18. The second game was a turning point as the Lady Beavers took a hard-fought 28-26 sudden death victory.
Going up 2-0 was huge for PCC.  The Saints could have gotten new life had they been able to tie up the match at one game apiece. The Beaver win, however, put them in the driver’s seat.
PCC closed out the match with a 25-21 count in game 3. Set and match, 3-0 Lady Beavers.
Playing their final match in the Beaver Dome, and going out in style, were the following women who were honored on sophomore night: Maci Grimes, Andale; Elisa Seumanu, Kearns UT; Shaylinn Kaus, Hoxie; and Kylie Pywell, Plainville.
PCC ends the regular season Thursday against Garden City at their place. The Lady Beavers upped their record to 8-19 (4-9 in the Jayhawk West) with their upset of Seward.
