  • Liberty Middle School’s  8th grade boys survived a scrappy St. Mark’s team to take a hard-fought 38-34 win on the road Mon.
St. Mark’s executed their game plan very effectively to counteract LMS’ height advantage. Pump fake/drives by St. Mark’s resulted in numerous free throws for them, and foul trouble for the LMS big kids, Samson Kohman and Traik Peltier.
St. Mark’s played a 1-2-2 zone, denying the wings and forcing the Junior Greenbacks to get the ball into the high post, which according to head coach Andy Kisner, “We didn’t handle very well.”
Offensively, Samson Kohman was “unstoppable” in Coach Kisner’s words. Kohman scored 22 points, but Kisner said, “We didn’t get him the ball enough.”
Devan Stephens and Drew Roadhouse saw good minutes off the bench, allowing LMS to hold their lead while Peltier and Kohman were benched with foul trouble.
With St. Mark’s applying pressure down the stretch, the Pratt middlers executed their press offense well. Ahead by a lone basket, Peltier was able to hit Bryce Stegman for a lay-up to go up by 4 and seal the win.
