Holiday shopping season prime time for fraut.

Area merchants and shoppers are cautioned to be on the look out for counterfeit bills that are currently circulating in the Pratt area.

Police have identified several people they believe are involved with passing the bills and are continuing the investigation.

Ward said all merchants and citizens should "know their money." All U.S. currency has built-in security features that identify real money from forgeries.

Anyone with questions can visit the police department and pick up a U.S. Secret Service brochure that describes those safety features.

Attempts to counterfeit increase during the holiday season when clerks and tellers are overwhelmed with purchases and customer service.

Anyone concerned about a bill can either contact the Pratt Police Department or take the bill to their bank to determine if it legitimate.
