  • Building momentum from a breakout team performance in Maize, the Greenback Wrestling Team surged into Clearwater with a goal of getting a team trophy and they achieved their team goal, 3rd place and several individual goals.  We had three in the finals and swept through those matches to gain three championship brackets on the day.
Goals and achievements aside, we still have work to do, as always, and there are a lot more mountains to climb this season.  Rest assured that we shall climb those mountains in the weeks to come.
106 Trae Foreman, jr., 3-0, 1st place.  Trae is wrestling very sharp right now.  He is making adjustments every week and is sure to be a whole different wrestler by the time we go to Regionals.  Trae has been winning the big matches in difficult situations and that experience, cannot be replaced.  Trae finished the day with an exciting 4-2 victory over the #3 in 4A, Cameron Miller of Concordia.  Trae is now 21-3 on the season.
113 Cesar Regalado, jr., 4-0, 1st place.  Cesar pinned his way through to the finals against Reno Hughey of El Dorado.  Cesar just about finished the day with a pin, but a blood timeout was called when he had his opponent locked up for the pin and 4 near fall points were awarded instead and after the timeout, we just ran out of time.  Cesar looked crisp in a championship match major decision win, 16-2.  Cesar is 14-2 on the season.
220 Austin Gates, sr., 3-0, 1st place.  Austin, aside from the 1st week of the season, has wrestled exactly as we instructed and it has paid off for him.  He is very difficult to beat when he wrestles a certain style and his quickness and agility make him fun to watch.  We still have a lot of work to do, but if Austin stays on this path, he will reap the rewards.
126 Zack Dipman, sr., 4-1, 3rd place.  Zackary returned to the Greenback lineup with a clear goal of wrestling well in his first action of the season and he certainly did that.  Zack faced Guy Kinder of Caney Valley in his 1st match back and lost a close, 2-point matchup to start his day.  Zack was a little rusty to begin with, but he came back with a vengeance and won his next 4 matches to get us a much-needed 3rd place finish, helping push us to our strong team finish.
152 Mitchell Baird, sr., 3-2 5th/6th place. Mitchell’s weight class is chock full of talent and each and every match is a battle.  Mitchell lost a tough decision in the championship quarterfinal to Gage Armstrong of El Dorado, 0-3 before winning a couple of matches, losing in the semifinals to #6 in 4A, Lawson Fiss of Hugoton.  Mitchell reached his 5 match limit and had to flip for 5th place and lost the flip to receive 6th place.  Mitchell will refocus this week in practice and come back primed for a good showing in Holton this week.
Page 2 of 2 - 160 Taylor White, jr., 3-2, 5th place.  Taylor made adjustments and improvements during the day to end up with a revenge win over Tim Grammon of Winfield after losing to him 5-10 in the 2nd round.  Taylor got us some much needed points on the day and ended the day on a high note with a 6-4 decision for the 5th place win.
170 Weston Riner, sr., 2-2, 5th place.  Weston is wrestling very well and just has very minor adjustments to make in match management and technique and he will see even better results.  We are very pleased with Weston’s progress and he is in every match he wrestles.  If Weston keeps working hard in the room, he will continue to see good results.
132 Hudson Swift, so., 1-2, 145 Devon Willard, jr., 1-2, 195 Chance Henke, so. 0-2.
