Three members of the Pratt CC Track & Field team competed this past Friday at the Leonard Hilton Memorial Indoor Track & Field Meet at the University of Houston. The Beavers were the only non-NCAA Division 1 school invited to compete in the meet. Other teams competing were: Univ. of Houston, Texas, UT-San Antonio, Rice Univ., Houston Baptist, Texas Southern, Prairie View A&M and Sam Houston State.
Jared Walker and Junior Doerue opened the meet for the Beavers in the 60m dash. Walker’s opening round time of 7.10 was fast enough to place him 10th and advance him to semi-finals (the top 16 times advanced). Doerue’s time of 7.17 did not advance to finals and finished 18th place overall. In the semi-finals Walker placed 4th in his heat and 8th overall with a time of 7.02 seconds. His time of 7.02 met the NJCAA National Qualifying standard for the NJCAA Championships and also secured him a spot in the 60m finals. In the finals Walker ran slightly slower with a time of 7.03, however he was still able to improve his placing with his 3rd place finish in the finals of the event. Walker’s season best time of 7.02 ranks him #25 in the NJCAA.
Both Walker and Doerue finished their day running the 200m dash. Walker was favoring his hamstring after three rounds of the 60m dash so he ran conservatively and pulled up in his race to keep from injuring himself for the season. Doerue had a slow start but was able to finish well down the straight-a-way to place first in his heat of the 200m.
The final event for the Beavers was the triple jump where Darius Hyacinth placed 7th overall with a jump of 13.87 meters.
Next up for the Beaver Track & Field Team is the Johnson County Cavalier Night Relays Friday January 25th, 2013.
