Pratt Community College and the Pratt Community College wrestling team will be hosting a prestigious event this weekend. The National Junior College Athletic Association West Central District Wrestling Tournament will be contested Saturday at the Dennis Lesh Sports Arena.
This regional tournament will determine who goes to the national NJCAA wrestling tournament. According to PCC wrestling coach Kenneth Kepley, “It is one of the toughest regionals in the country.”
A glance at the list of teams entered would corroborate that assessment. Included in the field are #1 ranked and defending national champions Labette County; #2 Colby; #7 Neosho; the host PCC Beavers with a #12 national ranking; #20 Northwest Tech; Wentworth Military Academy and Arkansas Baptist College.
Kepley said, “There will be plenty of returning all-Americans and national champions competing this weekend.”
Of local interest, former Pratt High School Greenbacks on the PCC roster include Taylor Baird, Kasey Crump and Ludwing Verbena. There should be plenty of high quality action for Pratt wrestling fans to go out and enjoy at PCC on Saturday. Matches are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
