The Liberty Middle School wrestling team travelled back to Hoisington for their invitational tournament on Friday, February 1 after having attended an event there as a guest earlier in the week.
The Greenbacks improved their overall winning percentage from Monday to a respectable 51%.
Dylan Pelland and Grant Vilcsek went 3-0 and 5-0 respectively on the day to capture first place medals.
Kaynan Ross, Hunter Kaufman, Clinton James, Bryan Balderrama, Drew Roadhouse, Dawson Cox and Cooper Doyle were just one win away from gold with runner-up finishes.
Logan Baird and William Mass earned bronze medals, while Cody Schelling, Elijah Gatlin, Brandon Guerra, Bryce Stegman, Tristen Rader and Tanner Swafford all placed 4th.
Hugo Candia won two straight matches in the consolation bracket to place 5th.
“Our beginning wrestlers showed lots of improvement at this tournament which is very encouraging,”said Bryan Pixler, LMS wrestling coach. “We still have things to fix but will have a long week of practice in order to do so before our next tournament.”
Greenback wrestlers are back on the mat on Saturday, February 9th for the Larned Middle School Invitational beginning at 9 a.m. Results will be in the Tribune.
