  • The Pratt Community College softball team played a quartet of games at Garden City over the weekend, two against Garden and two against Seward County in a triangular-doubleheader.
The Lady Beavers dropped a pair to Seward 10-2 and 4-1, and split with Garden, falling 4-1 on Saturday but pulling out a win in a wild one on Sunday.
In Sunday’s finale, the Beavers owned the last of five lead changes in a back-and-forth affair against the Lady ’Busters, and secured a 9-7 victory.
The top of the first saw the Beavers take an early lead, 3-0. A double by Brenda Novelo scored Annette Thomas-Daw to start the inning off. PCC then tacked on more runs when Novelo scored on an RBI double by Sam Garrison and Garrison scored on an RBI double by Stephanie Seewer.
The game see-sawed in the middle innings, but the Beavers didn't give up the lead again after the seventh inning. Additional runs came from an RBI single by Rachael Schoonmaker and an RBI triple by Garrison.
The Beavers retook the lead in the seventh inning and held on for the victory. Beavers went up for good on a two-run double by Fernanda Garcia, scoring Stephanie Seewer and Rachael Schoonmaker.
Sam Garrison racked up three RBIs on four hits for Beavers. She doubled in the first inning, singled in the third and fifth innings, and tripled in the seventh inning.
Raushell Baca recorded the win for Beavers. She allowed one run over four innings. She struck out one, walked three and surrendered eight hits.
PCC is now 5-9 in what has been an intermittent, snowy start to the season. Pratt’s next game is at Cowley County, March 7 at 2 p.m. Last Tuesday’s (March 5) home game with Hutch has been rescheduled for  March 8, 2 p.m.
