  • The Pratt Community College softball team split with Hutchinson on Friday in a doubleheader played at Hesston because of continuing soggy conditions at Angood Field.
Scoreboard operators were busy in the opener as the Beavers and HCC combined for 25 runs. The Beavers eventually won the offensive battle 13-12 in eight innings.
The teams banged out 30 hits hits between them, as well as 10 for extra bases.
The teams traded runs for most of the contest, leading to nine lead changes in the game.
The Beavers finally managed to grab the lead after a strong eighth inning. PCC scored on an RBI single by Kelsie Lundgren  plating Stephanie Seewer.
Lundgren got on base five times in the game for PCC. She scored four runs and had one RBI.
Ely Ortega got the win in relief for the Lady Diamond Beavers. Ortega pitched 3 2/3 innings and allowed two runs.
Beavers matched its two-run first inning with two more in the eighth. In the first, Beavers scored on an RBI double by Brenda Novelo, scoring Lundgren.
In the finale, a tight game was decided in the seventh inning as PCC fell to Hutch 7-6.
Sam Garrison went a perfect 3-3 at the dish for Beavers. She doubled in the first inning and singled in the second and fourth innings.
The bottom of the first saw Beavers take an early lead, 3-0. A double by Garrison, scoring Kelsie Lundgren started the inning off. Pratt pushed more runs across when  Annette Thomas-Daw scored on an RBI single by Brenda Novelo and Garrison scored on an RBI single by Sam Kettering.
After a quick strike from Hutchinson CC, Beavers responded with two runs in the fourth. Beavers scored on a two-run single by Novelo.
Hutch never trailed after scoring three runs in the seventh on a two-run double. Pratt could not manage another comeback, and thus split the double hitter.
PCC is back on the road next week. Tuesday they take on Independence and Friday and Saturday at Ft Scott and Johnson County respectively. They will return home on Monday March 18th at 12 and 2, a game with Dodge City that was rescheduled because of snow.
