  • In a special called meeting, the Pratt City Commission awarded a bid for repairs at the Ellis Kinney Municipal Swimming Pool to K.C. Gunite, Inc., of Belton, Mo.
The company estimated it would take about 75 days to repair concrete, replace five panels in the floor, make modifications to the wall on the north end, prepare and paint the pool and work on the filter.
A crew is expected to be on site this week, with an eye to completing the project by May 17 to allow the surface to cure before the pool is filled ahead of the traditional Memorial Day opening.
The Belton company submitted a bid of $232,927, the lowest of three bids. About $100,000 has been set aside in a capital reserve fund, financial director Diana Garten said, and the remainder will be paid with travel and tourism funds.
Other bids were for $296,927 and $372,000
The repairs are intended to "get the pool back in working order," according to public works director Russ Rambat.
In late summer or early fall, he will submit an overall plan that includes work to make bathhouses compliant with Americans With Disabilities Act and address other issues with the facility that was constructed in 1931 as part of the Works Progress Administration.
