Two drivers were uninjured in a two-vehicle accident on east U.S. 54 at the 20th Avenue intersection late Tuesday afternoon.
Merlin Grimes, 78 of Great Bend was west bound in a 2008 Ford Expedition when he got a phone call and suddenly slowed down to pull to the shoulder of the road to take the call, said Pratt County Sheriff's Deputy Cole Schmidtbeger.
As Grimes slowed down, a west bound 2009 Kenworth semi, driven by Frederick Edwards, 35 of Florida, collided with the passenger side rear of the Ford causing extensive damage to the Kenworth drivers side front wheel assembly.
The Expedition was damaged in the passenger side rear quarter panel and back door.
The Kenworth, that was hauling metal trusses, came to a stop in the west bound lane and shoulder while the Expedition spun around and stopped, right side up, facing east just off the paved shoulder.
Neither driver was injured in the accident and traffic was backed up and moved slowly for about an hour.
