  • Rachael Schoonmaker, Pratt Community College catcher, had a big day at the dish on Saturday against Labette County. Unfortunately, her teammates were not in the same groove and the Lady Beavers dropped both ends of a twin bill to the visiting Cardinals, 12-0 and 8-5.
In the opener, Labette put up a pair of runs in the first inning and were never headed. Up 6-0 in the sixth, the Cardinals struck for 6 more to put away the Beavers. Schoonmaker had a pair of hits, but Pratt could not convert either of those into runs and PCC fell 12-0 in game one.
In the finale, Pratt got a bit more offense going, but couldn’t get on top of Labette, who scored 2 in the second inning and 2 more in the third to take the lead.  Schoonmaker singled and doubled and knocked in three in a losing effort. Taylor Oldham also had an RBI in PCC’s 3-run bottom of the 5th which cut the deficit to 2 at that point. Labette was able to hang on to its lead and come away with the 8-5 win in game two.
Pratt is 13-13 in the conference and 19-23 overall. In the middle of a stretch in which they play five doubleheaders in seven days, this week the Lady Beavers play Brown Mackie Monday at 3 p.m., at Hesston Tuesday at 3 p.m., and with #1 ranked Butler on Thursday at 3 p.m.
