  • The Pratt High School golf team was fortunate to have a couple of the few days in western Kansas when the wind wasn’t blowing. Even so, the lengthy but well-groomed Bentwood Course still got the better of most of the Greenback golfers as they finished 7th out of 9 teams at the regional in Ulysses.
Larned won the regional with 324 and Andale was 2nd with 328. Pratt had 381.
PHS sophomore Tyler Skaggs qualified for State as an individual by posting an 80 to finish 10th. After a triple bogey-bogey start, Skaggs finished strongly, only 4 over par over his final 14 holes.
    Other Pratt results were 30th Navarre Strapp 95; 31st Spence Sullivan 96; 46th Hunter Walker 110; 48th Skylar Stalcup 112; 52nd Alec Hampton 116.
“With all of the boundaries and OB to the right on this course, we had some issues with penalty strokes, basically making our scores higher than recent outings,” said PHS coach Andy Kisner.
“All in all, we had a good season where we were able to finish 2nd in several tournaments and return to being competitive,” Kisner continued.   “We have had good senior leadership from Navarre Strapp, Alec Hampton, Ethan Gillig, and Skylar Stalcup.  Sophmores Tyler Skaggs and Spence Sullivan, and freshman Hunter Walker are all good players that are getting better and will be the core of the team for the next few years.”
Tyler Skaggs will compete next Monday at Cheney in the 4A State Golf Tournament. “We are looking forward to seeing what Tyler can do at State,” concluded Kisner.
