The Pratt Gators 12 and Under traveling baseball team took second place in a tournament held this weekend in Pratt at the Green Sports Complex.
On Saturday, the Gators downed the Tri-City Cobras 6-2. Wyatt Schrag was the winning pitcher, collecting 11 strikeouts.
In the Saturday nightcap, the Dodge City Young Guns were shot down by the Gators 6-3. Grant Bolen and Kauy Kuhn shared mound duties for the Gators, combining to fan 6 Young Guns.
In Sunday’s opener, the Young Guns from Great Bend fared even worse against the Gators than their namesakes from Dodge City had the night before. The Gators were all over them, pounding out 12 hits and working three bases on balls. Wyatt Schrag was again the winning pitcher in a 4-inning run-rule contest, 14-2 Gators.
The Gators also run-ruled their next opponent, the Goddard Fireballs. In another 4 inning contest, the Gators prevailed 13-3. Bolen and Schrag pitched for the Pratt team, who efficiently scored their 13 runs on 9 hits and 5 BB.
In the tournament championship game, the Gators lost a heartbreaker to the Cimarron River Rattlers 8-7. Pratt had only 5 hits, but worked 8 walks in the closely contested game. The score was knotted at 7 until Cimarron pushed across a run in the 6th inning to take the victory. Kaden Evert pitched well for the Gators, taking the loss even though recording 9 strikeouts.
The Gators are now 19-3 on the season. They will play this coming weekend in Derby in their final NBC points tournament of the summer as they tune up for the 12 and Under state tournament which will be held in Pratt July 12-14.
