  • The Pratt 86ers gave Dodge City a tussle in game one, then fell in run-rule fashion in game two.  The Rangers, who were champions of the Smoky Ford Wood Bat Tournament back in June, returned to town Thursday night for an encore.
In game one, the pitchers for both teams held the upper hand. Pratt hurlers Brett Forshee and Chase Hageman only yielded 3 runs to the Rangers, but those were enough to best the 86ers, who had trouble squaring the ball up against Ranger southpaw Austin Weiser.
The few baserunners the 86ers managed were either left stranded or wiped out by Ranger defensive plays and game one went to the Rangers 3-0.
In the nightcap, Dodge City broke up what had been a close game for four innings by putting up crooked numbers in the fifth and sixth innings, and eventually emerged with a run-rule victory.
The game was knotted at 1 going into the top of the fifth when the Rangers put a 4-spot on the board, to be followed by a 5-spot in the sixth inning making the score 10-1 Dodge. Pratt managed a tally in the bottom of the 6th, but it was not enough to stave off the run-rule and the Rangers claimed game two as well, 10-2. The next action for Pratt is a Sunday doubleheader with Larned, 2&4.
