  • There was an arrest over the weekend in the fatal shooting of a Leavenworth man, police officials said.
A 26-year-old Leavenworth man was arrested Saturday afternoon for involuntary manslaughter in connection to the death of Dick Mathis.
The suspect's name is being withheld until confirmation that he's been formally charged in Leavenworth County District Court.
Mathis, 30, died Saturday morning in Leavenworth. He was shot while a passenger in a pickup truck in the area of 18th and Cherokee streets, according to Maj. Dan Nicodemus, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department.
Mathis reportedly was shot in the chin by a bullet from a 9 mm handgun. Police aren't releasing many details regarding what they believed happened.
"We're not willing to talk about it at this time," Nicodemus said.
He said the case is still under investigation.
Nicodemus said police were called at 2:41 a.m. Saturday after two people brought Mathis to Saint Luke's Cushing Hospital after he'd been shot.
