  • The first set went well for the Pratt Community College volleyball team as they took on the visiting Blue Dragons from Hutchinson Community College on Wednesday at the Dennis Lesh Sports Arena. Unfortunately, the next three did not and the Lady Beavers fell in 4 sets to Hutch.
The opening game saw Pratt playing well. They had good serves, nice passing and effective net play. The Beavers took the initial game 25-19, to the delight of the large, partisan crowd.
In game two, HCC’s blockers began to take the measure of PCC’s hitters. The Blue Dragons opened up a lead, and only service errors kept them from getting on a big roll. At one point the score was 17-12 for HCC, and from there they closed out the Beavers by going on an 8-2 run. 25-14 HCC.
Game three was a closely contested affair for most of the way. Ashlie Gramke tallied some points for PCC at the net. Brooke Christie had some nice blocks and Whitney Gibson put a ball down. Jocelyn Cochran had a stuff and a spike. It was 17-17 in the game that would determine the course of the match.
HCC went on another run at that point, their serves putting Pratt back on their heels, unable to get into an offensive flow. The 8-1 Dragon spurt closed out game three, 25-18.
Hutch pretty much swept aside the dispirited Beavers in game four, closing out the match with a convincing 25-13 decision in game four.
With the defeat, Pratt’s record falls to 3-10 on the season (2-3 in the Jayhawk West). PCC goes on the road for its next two contests, Friday at Hesston 7 p.m. and Saturday at Seward County beginning at 6:30 p.m.
