  • In their final tune-up before sub-state, the Pratt High School volleyball team hosted a triangular with two of the teams they had faced last weekend in the Goddard Tournament, namely Goddard and Valley Center.
In addition, it was Senior Night for Lady Green as PHS’ six seniors were recognized. Jaci Kolm, Jenson Maydew, Christina Fernandez, Amy Olson, Bailey Gillig and Lauren Rambat each received honors for their service over the past four years.
The games didn’t go quite as well as the Lady Greenbacks were hoping. The girls and head coach Shelby Nesbit were looking forward to the rematch with Valley Center— a team Pratt felt it had controlled for much of the match before falling last Saturday.
However, the anticipated revenge did not materialize as the Lady Hornets pretty well dominated the homestanding Frogs on Tuesday.  Scores in the nightcap against Valley Center (ranked #7 in 5A) were 18-25; 10-25.
The outcome was more to Lady Green’s liking in the opener, however. Pratt handled Goddard 25-14; 25-18 to get the evening off to a good start.
“We couldn’t really get established against Valley Center,” Coach Nesbit explained. “Our serve-receive wasn’t working very well. Our block had its up and downs.”
iPratt goes to Clearwater Saturday for what is without question the toughest sub-state in 4A division II. Pratt will play host Clearwater in the opening round 20 minutes following the completion of Game One, which pits Trinity Academy against Andale at 2 p.m.
All four teams in the sub-state are currently ranked in the top 10 in 4AII: Clearwater 3, Pratt 4, Trinity 5, Andale 10.
Coach Nesbit is undaunted by the tough competition facing her Greenbacks at the Clearwater sub-state. “We talked in the locker room about what it’s going to take this weekend to succeed,” Nesbit said. “I’m glad we had a tough night so we have things that need to be worked on and fixed for Saturday at Clearwater.”
