$1,820 is the amount donated by The Peoples Bank to the RSVP Angel Tree program.
  • If a program is successful, it deserves repeating. Last year, a Pratt Public Library Read 4 Charity program raised more than $1,800 for the RSVP Angel Tree program that provides new clothing for children at Christmas.
The library began enrolling readers for the 2013 version on Oct. 15, but adults can get involved any time between now and Nov. 30.
It's easy — check out and read a book or listen to an audio book, fill out a short form that asks for your name, title and number of pages. At the end of the period, Southwest Truck Parts, Inc., and The Peoples Bank will each donate $5 per 1,000 pages to the Angel program.
Last year, several older patrons paid close attention to not only how many pages they were reading, but how many dollars that would add to the charity, Director Rochelle Westerhaus said.
She assumes some might not have been able to make a monetary donation, and were proud to be able to contribute in this way.
"We felt it was a very successful program," Westerhaus summarized.
Read 4 Charity helped a number of children, and also boosted library circulation during the six-week period by about 14 percent. Adult circulation continued high for the rest of 2012 and through 2013, Westerhaus said, indicating they may have gained some new patrons.
