Thought for today: all entitlement programs should be means tested, and benefits should diminish as income increases.
Yes, even Social Security. Think of it as insurance – if you are rich, you don’t need it. Why should the government send money to old billionares like Ross Perot, George Soros, and Bill Gates? Pay full benefits to folks with annual income of say, up to $50,000 for an individual plus $12,000 per dependant. Pro-rate the check from there up to say, $80,000 plus $12,000 per dependant. People making above that don’t really need another check of (almost always) less than $2000 per month.
The same with Medicare. Full benefits up to the same lower limit, increasing copays and deductibles up to the second limit, nothing beyond that.
DemocratCare (a.k.a. Obamacare) subsidies are already means tested. Medicaid, food assistance, and many other programs are already means tested.
I don’t believe in sticking it to the rich, but I also don’t think the taxpayers should be paying out all the money to people who don’t really need it.
