The girls lost a tight one 31-27 while the boys were handled 67-40 by the Chieftains In the girls game, the score was tied at 5 after eight minutes. Taylor DeWeese had a basket and Brooke Fisher a 3-ball for Skyline. Fisher added 5 more in Q2, but South Barber took a 16-14 lead at halftime. In the closely contested game, the Lady Chieftains only outscored Skyline by one point in each of the final two quarters, but it was enough to preserve the 31-27 win for South Barber. Mycha Owens had 4 points in the third quarter and Fisher 4 in the fourth to pace the Lady T-Bird efforts. Fisher had a big game offensively for Skyline, pouring through 14 points. Before the first period was over, the Chieftains led 23-4 as South Barber found ways to score early and often. Meanwhile, Skyline could only manage single baskets from Brandon Abbott and Dustin Weber. Skyline made a nice comeback in Q2. Bryce McKennon scored 8 of his team-high 18 points in the frame to help cut the T-Birds’ deficit to 37-20 at the half. Following intermission, the Chieftains again seized command of the game, outscoring Skyline 16-8 in the third quarter and 14-12 in the final stanza. When time expired, South Barber had won 67-40.
