A pile of trees that had been cleared to make room for a new house near U.S. 281 south of Sawyer was being burned Thursday, when the fire got away and set several acres of grass on fire as well. Sawyer fire department was the closest to the fire and was called to put the fire out.

The entire area is very dry and the grass, especially CRP grass, is a fire hazard so caution must be taken to prevent fire in this dry season.
