Madalane C. Whaley, 92, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2014. She was born June 7, 1921 in Meade, the daughter of Paul and Vera (Pullman) Gray.

On Feb. 14, 1943 she married L.T. “Tom” Whaley at Reno, Nev. He preceded her in death on Aug. 28, 1979.

Madalane was a member of the First Christian Church in Pratt. She was secretary at the Barron Theatre after high school and then worked as secretary of the trust department at The Peoples Bank in Pratt for 31 years, from 1945-1976.

Madalane was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi, the Pratt County Historical Society, the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and the PRMC Auxiliary.

She is survived by a daughter, Jeri Whaley Reed of Pratt; a brother, Paul Gray of Garden City; a sister, Carolyn McDaniel of Warsaw, Mo.; three grandsons, Keegan Reed, Tyler Reed and Justin Hoyt; a son-in-law, Ross Hoyt of Pratt, and three nieces and one nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Janice Hoyt and a sister, Beverly Mease.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 23, at Larrison Mortuary, 300 Country Club Road, Pratt. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the mortuary, with Pastor Tom Walters officiating. Burial will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Pratt.

Memorials may be made to the State Library of Kansas, Talking Book Service or Pratt County Historical Museum in care of the mortuary. Condolences may be left at
