Stafford movie theater upgrades to digital equipment
Stafford’s movie theater is putting on the Ritz with its new high-tech digital projection system.
“We had to make the upgrade to digital to be able to get the new release movies,” said theater manager, Mike Cargill. “All the new releases are only being released in digital format, which makes them easier to get if you have the equipment.”
While the digital equipment represented a significant expense for the city owned theater with a $40,000 lease, it was a good investment.
According to Cargill the movies are sent to the digitally, and actually started through the digital package.
“About all we have to do now is adjust the sound level,” said Sonny Victory, one of the volunteer projectionists.
Without the expense of film copies, shipping cases across the country and limited copies, Cargill said it is easier for the small theaters to get first run movies as soon as they are released.
“When the movies were on film there were limited copies and small theaters like this were a long way down the list to get them,” he said. “This makes it so much easier.”
Along with the state-of-the art equipment, the Ritz offers all the amenities of a larger theater with comfortable seating and full service concession stand.
The theater runs movies every other weekend with admission prices of $5 for adults and $3 for children. June movie is Blended with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. Show times are 7:30 p.m.
