February 12, 2017: SOAP #2628: Leviticus 18-19; Psalm 13; Acts 19

Scripture: Leviticus (NIV) 19:1 The LORD said to Moses, 2 “Speak to the entire assembly of Israel and say to them: 'Be holy because I, the LORD your God, am holy. 3 “'Each of you must respect his mother and father, and you must observe my Sabbaths. I am the LORD your God.

Observation: Why should people keep God's commands? Five times in chapter 18 and sixteen times in chapter 19 we have the reason. It is not because keeping God's commands is good for us. It is not because keeping God's commands is good for those around us. Yes, keeping God's commands is good for us; yes, it is good for our neighbor. But the reason given is because He is the LORD our God.

Application: The overriding reason for my life is that God alone is God and that He created me for His glory. His word is the final authority. As Lord, He has veto power over all my choices.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, though I am undeserving, you have proved your love for me. God, you alone are God! Lord, you are my Lord! Amen
